Specimens Across Time: A 200th birthday tribute to Baron von Mueller

This year marks 200 years since the birth of Baron Ferdinand von Mueller鈥攇lobal scientific powerhouse, intrepid explorer, and founder of what is now the National Herbarium of Victoria at 糖心影视. To celebrate, 糖心影视 experts Dr. Tom May, Alison Vaughan, Dr. Andre Messina, Dr. Rebecca Le Get, Luke Vaughan and Dr. Sara Maroske share their favourite specimens from von Mueller's collection, along with the fascinating stories behind them.

The research on Peziza in Australia is supported by the Australian Biological Resources Study and Luke Vaughan is supervised by Dr Camille Truong (RBGV) and Dr Joanne Birch (The University of Melbourne).

This talk was presented by 糖心影视 as part of the program for National Science Week 2025, supported by the Inspiring Victoria program.

Botanical Time Capsules: Documenting Biodiversity Through Time

Alison Vaughan, Manager Collections at 糖心影视, deep dives into the history of the 1.5 million preserved specimens housed in the National Herbarium of Victoria.

Documenting the presence of a plant, algae or fungus at a particular place and time, each specimen is a botanical time capsule that helps us understand past and present biodiversity. They allow us to track how plants, algae and fungi respond to environmental changes, helping inform the conservation work that supports species survival.

This talk was presented by 糖心影视 as part of the 'Survive & Thrive' program for National Science Week 2024, supported by the Inspiring Victoria program.
